Title: Flying Sunday Sept 8- a hurricane!
Post by: Frank v B on September 08, 2024, 03:10:44 PM
Andy and I met at Rogo Field this afternoon at 1 to do some flying.
A hurricane from the west but it subsided quickly but still very gusty.

Two flights (brought 4 planes) with hand-launch rockets that are not affected by wind...so I thought.  My Mini-Breeze launched fine but it appeared to lose radio contact and spiralled in at the south end of the field.  Andy was kind enough to retrieve it.  A tie between pulling it out of the earth or pushing it through the other end.

Second flight was with the Nooner.  No problem!  The upwind passes were slow but the downwind legs were ballistic.
Landing was no problem but long.  This plane takes forever to lose speed to land.

Photo report:

56- Andy is the only person who takes UMX planes to a hurricane.  ;)
57- My Mini-Breeze as retrieved by Andy.  "Merely a flesh wound"
58- Closeup of the flesh wound damage.  Will post the repair thread.
59- Angry clouds and a Minion at the base of the wind sock.
