Title: Fokker by Coverite
Post by: GuyOReilly on June 24, 2025, 02:14:11 PM
I am starting a new build.
This one will be a tail drag configuration as it saves weight at the front and leaves room for the battery.
The instructions are backwards (IMHO).  You do not add stiffeners after the fuselage is built  :o  and the wing saddle doublers should be glued to the sides before the fuselage formers are added.   ???
Although the instructions call for the construction of the wing first, I decided (in my great wisdom  :-X  ) to start with the fuselage.
The 2-part tail section is sheet balsa and already glued-up, ready for sanding and covering.
Simpler build than the Robbe Disco Glider.
As for colour scheme, I may not go with the WWI German markings (TBD).

Fuselage started and tail section started.
Servos will be located near the tail.
This location is preferable as the motor and battery combination results in a very nose heavy plane.
Other construction change was the slot for the stab: it is incorrect on the instructions and on the plans.

Too hot to stay put in the sun gardening...
Much progress, the wings will be epoxied together soon.
It is simpler, I found, to do the sheeting after joining the wings.
That is another difference from the plans and instructions.
It is starting to look like a plane  ;D

That looks like a fun build, Guy.

We're looking forward to seeing it fly!

One step forward, two steps back (or something like that).
I had a little mishap...
The fuselage fell 2 feet from a stool and it broke just before F2.
I noticed that there were no doubler between F1 (firewall) and F2 - see the plan on photo 63 .
All repaired now and doubler added.
Also sourced some larger ailerons for more positive roll; the original had 1-inch wide triangular stock for ailerons.

Covering mostly done, a few details to add.
Needs a cowling - TBD (that means To Be Designed).
Happy with the results.

Maiden flight went well, other than the « landing ».  :(
No big problem to repair the fuselage.
Changes that will be incorporated during the repair:
* move thrust line up 3/8 inch.
* add plywood to the sides.
* solidify former F2 where the wing joins.
* located larger wheels.
* buy a new prop.
* add fibreglass to solidify the front end.

Pictures of the repair to follow.

Your build looks great, Guy.  I'm glad the test flight went well, for the most part..

Repair started, a bit more shaping and then fiberglass the inside.
