Building / Construction / Re: Bi-Plane Build
Last post by msatin - March 19, 2025, 04:10:06 PM
Sanding is my least favorite part of the build.
-Not just because it's time consuming. It is
-Not just because it makes a horrendous mess. It does
-Not just because it makes me sneeze my head off for hours afterwards. I do. Usually when I'm trying to glue some small part!  ???
The main reason I don't like sanding is because of the damage I do to other parts of the plane. Usually Ribs.
Pic 22 shows the multiple pieces I used to repair this rib.
I was to embarrassed to take a pic of where I put a finger partially through some 1/16" sheeting. Ah well!

Nice weather brought out a number of planes, and also jets, a glider and a helicopter.

A few images:

1. Simon with a big aerobatic helicopter.
2. George with his Avanti jet.
3. Paul at a pilot station.
3. David with his 3D-printed Cobra jet; it had a perfect maiden flight.
4. No more snow on the field,
5. Simon's glider.
5. David and I enjoying rolled chocolate wafers.

I built some nacelles, just for looks.

I used paper and cardstock to make templates, and then made the nacelles from 1/32nd balsa sheet, with inner balsa tubes glued with epoxy to stiffen the assembly. Then covered, and put it place with friction and tape.

Pic 17 & 19 is the competed cowl
Pic 18 is the completed fuse. Pic 20 is with the battery hatch cover
This essentially completes the actual building.
I will do the sanding and covering over the next few days, and will post pics as I progress.
