David,

As soon as you wrote roll in the hay I knew it.
This is so Monty Pythonic but here are the quotes.

ps: such a classic movie.

Here we are several days later with the photos of last Wednesday's training session.

Photo report.

21- George trying to convince Kirk it is pronounced "Toh-mah-toes".
22- Mark prepping his small jet (leaf blowerette?)
23- Paul and his two wings flying in formation.
25- Guy got the memo that his shirt had to match a colour on his plane.
27- Paul doing his best imitation of gutting a fish.
28- Kenny has his props going in the wrong direction ( vertically, not horizontal)
31- New member Bill getting ready to suck the life out of 3 flight batteries.  Good flying Bill.

Repairs completed!
Ready for re-maiden flight.
I need to check CG as it is very far forward.
Happy with results, more ground clearance.
It still needs a cowling, but it will do for now.

I talked to the farmer today and learned the reason.  First the name, the farmer says... Hay Roll... comes from Young Frankenstein where Teri Garr asks Gene Wilder if he wants a roll in the hay.  The kids, at the time, were tire of asking each other if they wanted a bale in the hay... no one could figure out what that meant.

Next, a piece of hay doesn't weight anything... almost lighter than air.  No matter how many pieces are put together the weight is exactly the same.  The Hay Rolls don't roll because there's no weight to them.  Sometimes, the farmer has to tarp them down to keep them from blowing... or floating away.

Sheesh... the things you learn living in the country.

I think their landing gear gets stuck in a rut, and that's why they don't roll.

I wonder if they flatten slightly under their own weight, effectively making them self-chocking.

Beautiful landscape!

There are a lot of rolling hills in my new neighbourhood.

On the way to TEMAC the other day, along Lakeridge Rd., I came over the crest of a hill and saw this.

So... how do they not all roll down???  An amazing sight.
