Back in the races - again

I didn't like the fiberglass fuselage because it had a built in climb (negative stabilizer incidence), and because I didn't like screwing on the wing and holding on to the plane with a live motor.

I scratch built a new fuselage in balsa and a bit of ply. It features full-time screwed-down wing, better motor mount, naturally balanced without battery, a battery hatch, and because it's made of balsa, it's easier to repair.

A new upgrade.

Considering I was using a 5.25 x 6.25 prop, and the components were getting only slightly warm, I think this 6 x 6 system will function reasonably well.

I'm not sure how efficient it will be, but I'm sure it will be more efficient than my flying, and more forgiving on my landings.

Major crash today.

Wing is not too bad, tail is ok.

Fuselage is pretty bad, totally destroyed in front of the wing.

Motor is toast, ESC is badly bent, battery pack smashed and servos ripped apart.

The plane was flying fine when all of a sudden the motor stopped instantly and there was no radio contact. It just smashed right down.

I'm guessing a motor magnet came loose and seized the motor, and immediately produced a power overload/loss to the receiver.

Anyway, this is not a simple nor inexpensive repair. As well, I'm pretty busy in the next couple months, and may not find the time to rebuild. Unless/until I can replace the plane and the components, is it possible to take my name out of the races so I don't hurt my team's standing?

Or, perhaps someone has a complete or near complete Nooner-class model they want to sell.

After the crash of my custom-nooner, I put together a Morphine that Robert gave me in an almost finished state. That one blew apart in flight due to vibration.

I have since glued all the bits together, installed a new motor (E-Flite 6-series 2700 kv) and covered the front of the fuselage with clear Monokote. With a 5.5" x 4.5" propeller, it draws just over 20 amps, which should be just fine for the CC speed control.

If I have a chance later this week, I'll buy a new spinner.

That clear monocote is a wonderful idea! Nice one.

I have a spare spinner I think. Is the old Mega motor going spare again it was it damaged?

It wasn't damaged in my crash; but it might have had a slightly bent shaft, or the prop I was using was not balanced well, or the fuselage was just not strong enough to hold the thing together at full throttle (which was in excess of 30 amps!).

The clear Monokote around the nose is for added strength.

I`ll return the Mega motor to you.
