Pioneers of electric powered model aircraft

There are several "electric pioneers" in our midst. I'm relatively new at about 6 years.
I will admit though that I made fun of and laughed at the performance of electric power for meany years!  Now I have only electric models and consider them far superior to the glow models I flew previously.
Yea 400W/lb should about do it.. But wouldn't a nice round 500 be better?
