It's coming to September, that also means our flying time is getting shorter at the field.  But with putting LED lights to the plane, I can still fly a littler longer.   :D

Here are my suggestion:

For night flying, I like the plane to fly slow.  Overall, it's getting dark and you don't want to crash the plane.  For color of choice, avoid Blue or purple colour.  Bright white is also not a good choice (your eyes will thank you).  RED, GREEN, ORANGE, YELLOW – those will help the orientation.  When putting led lights, you want most of the lights at the bottom of the wing, lower part of the side fuselage, and bottom of the fuselage.  Decorating all the led at the top of the plane, it only looks great on the ground, but once it's up in the air, you are always looking at the bottom.  What about Nav lights?  Nav lights looks good but it's not enough to see the orientation (a tiny little light flashing won't help) when it's getting dark.  Also even you have the lights setup, keep closer distance when doing night flying.  As it goes further away, those lights will hard to see.

Here are the led lights I got.   Please note those led lights I ordered are for 3S planes.

TechOne-Neptune (or HobbyKing Sonic 64)
High Density Waterproof LED Flexible Strip(Green/Red/Orange) – from Hobby King
HobbyKing Flybeam Night Flyer replacement LEDs Set – from Hobby King (Flybeam was my first night flying plane.  I reused the spare parts)
Single Channel RC Switch – NGHobbies (Zoltan).  To assign the channel so you can turn on/off the led lights from your radio.  http://www.nghobbies.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_10_81&products_id=1395#.V9Nr9o-cFZU

Tundra – Hobby King / Apprentice – E-Flite
Red/Green/Yellow - After Dark LED - http://www.afterdarkled.com/products/airplanes/sport.html
White – After Dark LED - http://www.afterdarkled.com/products/length/quality.html

EPP 3D Balsa Sport plane (looks stunning if you know how to fly 3D. Fly it slow and low.  Too bright if you are doing pattern flying.)
Aurora RC - http://www.aurorarc.com/products-page/product-category/genesis

NOTE: Bring Mosquito repellent - They are terrible at night.

I have the aurora RC lights and they are amazing. It's hard to explain but you see the plane rather than the lights on a plane. I like it!
