Foamies

Hey Guys,
A friend was looking at my PZ Mosquito. He said it looks great, but you can see all the little cells in the foam through the paint. It got me to thinking why this is the case in every foamy. It seems it would not be hard for manufacturers to overcome that with some sort of sealing/filler coat before the top coat of paint. Why is it that none of them do this? Is it a weight thing?

I think it may be expense as well as weight.
There is a place on the web that sells this for planes but it is pretty costly. It's a two part liquid. Then there is the application too.
Hobby King sells one of their jets that can be had with a special plastic coating over the foam and that version costs about twice the price when you add it.

If you had the time you could make a thick slurry of light weight Spackle and brush it all over. Sand until smooth, paint with foam compatible primer and then paint. You would have to love the model a lot!
