It was an awesome float fly! Thanks to Rob for organizing, and hopefully I'll be at the next one next weekend. ;D

Thank you Robert to organize the float flying event.  Too bad the wind is too strong to fly.  I look forward for the next float fly event.  :)

Wanted to attend this event with my new Pilatus PC-6, but while getting my Flyzone Beaver ready, had a not so nice encounter with its propeller.

Sorry to hear it was the last for the year.

Hey Guys!  Thanks for coming out!

Well, it was far from the greatest conditions for float flying, but about 15 brave souls and support crew made their want to the wonderful Tavares Pond in hopes that the threatening thunderstorms, tornados, hurricanes... who knows what, would move around the site and leave us with a good day for float flying.  Well, it was windy when we arrived, but manageable.  Then, it gradually started to settle down and the weather for the evening started to look promising.  Then, all of a sudden, the wind picked up and never settled back down.  There was a good amount of flying while the wind was reasonable, then some more valiant attempts after the wind picked up, but it was starting to become apparent the the strong winds were here to stay and it was starting to threaten rain.  So, we figured we should start getting all the gear packed up before the storm hit.

BUT, just for some entertainment value, Glenn hopped in the boat and stood (floated) ready to retrieve what was to be a ditched landing of my EDF Twister, which I figured would be fun to fly over the pond and land on the water.  The flight was fun and fast, and the landing, despite the aggressive winds, settled in nicely and the plane stayed afloat as if it was meant to land on water... until the wind caught the wing and flipped it over.  No harm done other than perhaps a fried ESC.  But that's the price you pay for entertainment  ;D

It was so nice to have the bunch of the regulars out for a day at the pond.  It's too bad the weather messed up our day, but we still enjoyed sitting and chatting and spending some time at this nice location.

And to cap thing off, about 12 of us headed to Wild Wings, and enjoyed some warm food and cold beverages over spirited plane talk.  See?  We make the best of any flying/non-flying situation.

Always a great time at our float fly's!
