One piece for the top of one wing, one for the bottom.
So total of 4 pieces.
For a plane like the Cub you might need some smaller pieces for the tips to make the job easier.

Just curious, do they ever do building demos at the monthly meetings?

I like to try to stick with one piece from wing tip to wing tip on the bottom of wings (if less than 6' span as that's the length of a roll of covering (typically).  I like the idea of getting a little extra strength from the continuous piece across the center of the wing.  Usually it's necessary to slit the front 1/3 or so at the center leading edge to alow one half to overlap the other half when there's a little bit of an "entry" (upward slope of the bottom of the wing toward the LE.....or for a symetrical or semi-symetrical wing.
