Yes that was Rob Pike for the trim levers.

Here are some photos from the maiden flight today.
A heart-stopping moment when it looked like it tip stalled.
Some of us thought he had bought the farm.
Michael (Sully) was able to re-gain control and brought it in for a safe landing.
The real reason: one of the two fans stopped working.

The photo sequence for the first take-off.

I recommend a bit of paint on the tip tanks and rudder before flight. The visual aid has saved my Albatross from lost orientation.

Wiring complete, some white paint, some black paint, dual rates set up, stabilizer set up, and balanced.

Ready for a maiden flight.

General Discussion / Yes it was hot!! Sunday July ...
Last post by Frank v B - July 06, 2025, 05:00:07 PM
We were at the field at about 11:30 today and it was beyond hot.  The wind made flying very difficult.  Most of the wind was thermal.  Very bouncy. Very splatty.  Yes those are accurate descriptors of the conditions.
Mark tried to fly and plane with stabilization and found it difficult as well.
We had visitors to the field.  William, Mathew and their mother Maria dropped by to watch model airplanes fly.  Better than a video simulator but the reset button is much more expensive.

I flew 3 of my planes and landed safely (lucky).  Not so with the Club's Apprentice.  It bounced all over the sky and I could not stop it from doing a death spiral.  It is now in the repair shop.

Thanks to Greg for dropping by and explaining things to William and Mathew.  Thanks to Mark for prepping the trainer.

I was at the field today, it was HOT!
The plane was not performing as expected and I assumed that it was the density altitude calculated as 7,000 feet or so.
Unfortunately, it was something else...

Too hot to stay put in the sun gardening...
Much progress, the wings will be epoxied together soon.
It is simpler, I found, to do the sheeting after joining the wings.
That is another difference from the plans and instructions.
It is starting to look like a plane  ;D

General Discussion / MAAC Off-Site Flyers Program
Last post by davidk - July 06, 2025, 11:47:51 AM
MAAC is offering a new program called the Off-Site Flyers Program (OFP) for RPAS and mRPAS.

You can register for this program here: MAAC Off-Site Flyers Program

This program allows MAAC members, once approved, to fly at locations that do not have a MAAC SOC.  For example, your cottage.

The OFP Document can be found at the link above as well as the Safety Document that governs your flying.

The OFP has nothing, at all, do to with TEMAC.  If you are approved for the OFP and fly at a site then that flight is between you and MAAC and TC.

While you are flying at TEMAC, the OFP has nothing to do with your flying.  TEMAC, MAAC, and TC rules continue to be the only rules applicable at TEMAC.

The OFP program does provide MAAC insurance but in a very specific way so make sure you read and understand the OFP Document carefully.  E.g. If you want to fly at a site under the OFP and the landowner requests proof of insurance then that site cannot be used for the OFP.  You would then need to apply for an SOC for that site.

The OFP is free for this year and has a cost of $50 starting in 2026.

Please post any questions you may have regarding the OFP and I'll try to get answers for you.
