Takeoffs are optional. Landings are mandatory.

They did offer this before.

I was considering it, but this would end up being a medium size plane weighing about 10 pounds or more.

To fly from our field it would need way-out-of scale (too big) retracts, would need extremely long take off and landing runs, or would have to be bungee launched, but I have never seen a 10-pound model bungee launched.

It would likely fly 2 speeds only: very fast and very-very fast.

Yes, this model can only really be flown off asphalt. Too bad it would make for a very sweet winter project.

P.S. Here is a user review:

"The G500 maiden flight from this morning. My complete build log can be seen here link below.

Sounds like a retract destroyer... Better belly land that bad boy  ;D

16lbs on a retracting nose gear.... That is going to one strong nosegear!
Yea 400W/lb should about do it.. But wouldn't a nice round 500 be better?

On a rough grass field? sure you'd be lucky to get one flight in before the gear bends/rips off.

Other than that a standard retract for a jet that size is all you need.

Flew at the NIPMAC field in North Bay this past weekend and they had a fabric (White astro turf?)runway in the middle of a grass field. (There was also a four-legged beaver in the middle of one of the two runways!) Transition from grass to runway was seamless as I taxied over it a couple of times. Fabric was held in place with spikes and came from a paper mill I  think at a cost of a couple of hundred dollars...not bad for a 50x3-4 yard ! Apparently the fabric kills the grass underneath and then some kind of fine screenings will be compacted to make a permanent strip. ROGO maybe? I'd really like to do fewer nose-overs!
Pictures are from my dumb phone...sorry about the quality

So what do we need to do in order to have a similar setup?

What are we talking about here? Killing a stretch of the field grass so we can have fabric on it so we can fly a 14 pound golfstream? I've lost track.

I think Ben was referring to the fact that the thread was about the Gulfstream but it went a little off track. If we want to discuss the field maintenance, lets start a new thread about that.

Takeoffs are optional. Landings are mandatory.

How can we move the field improvement requests/suggestions into a new Topic?
I am sure we will have more comments and suggestions

Done.

There is a new thread about that topic.
