Building / Construction / Re: repairing freewing f16 gea...
Last post by Noah - Today at 02:22:59 PM
following Thursdays crash landing i thought i had done a lot more damage then i actually did, the strut, mounting pins and most of the retract housing was undamaged. one bearing broke which caused the nose wheel to collapse and i lost my nose wheel steering pin but that was about it. however the retract arm was bent about 10 degrees causing the gear to not retract. fortunately i had ordered a spare earlier if this happened. so i removed the retract and stuck the new one in and it was almost good to go. usually e clips are a pain in the but to remove and put on but this time it went on and off without fighting me and i was even able to reuse the old e clip. at  this point I'm just waiting on the bearing and steering setup to come in and its flyable again, other than the wing damage(which i fixed easily) and the nose gear nothing else was damaged.

General Discussion / Re: RPAS Wilco Insurance Progr...

I received this reply from RPAS Wilco:

QuoteIn short, RPAS Wilco Pro for MAAC members is restricted to RC model use only. Our regular Pro subscription is $149/year, so the MAAC member version is intentionally limited. However, since you joined MAAC before July 1, 2025, you're grandfathered in - meaning you get full RPAS Wilco Pro access for drones as a show of goodwill for early support from MAAC.
You don't need to worry about the $299 package - that's only for new drone users coming in through our platform. The additional cost is for us powering the full solution and covering all costs to deliver and scale this offering to the broader drone community.

As usual, answers leave me with more questions but I don't think it's worth time or effort looking into further.  I'm guessing that this program gives a user access to RPAS Wilco Pro in full??  But that's not really clear, so I'm still not really sure what the $154 is for other than paying for the operation of the program.

General Discussion / RPAS Wilco Insurance Program
Last post by davidk - Yesterday at 10:29:17 AM
Does anyone know any specifics about the RPAS Wilco Insurance Program?  Here is their webpage RPAS Wilco Insurance

It costs $299 per calendar year.  I believe this includes a MAAC Membership ($95) and the MAAC Off-Site Flyers Program ($50).  For a total, that's $145 included in the $299.

I'm trying to see what else this insurance program gives you to make up the $154.  MAAC includes the RPAS Wilco App, so it's not that.

I'm starting to find this a bit confusing with MAAC offering the Off-Site Flyers Program for $50 and then RPAS Wilco offering insurance in partnership with MAAC for $299.

Any thoughts?

You're welcome Andy.
It is so much work when you get a chance to fly other people's nice planes.  ;D

You're the second person to suggest that. I was using 2 different brand speed controls, so it's a possibility.

I replaced the 70 amp speed controls (which got really hot) with matching 100s.

No issues now. 4th and 5th flights were better. I even did a roll!

Nylon sticker windows added (Thanks David).

Wow!  I had to dig WAY down in the build group to find this topic of mine.  What a great club with so much building and conversation going on, year after year.

So, after being out of the hobby for a few years, I'm doing what I can to crawl back into being active.  One of my goals for this summer was to test fly my American Eaglet that had been finished and ready to fly for over three years.

I'm very happy to report that I flew it twice this evening, and it flew beautifully.  Yes, it's light wind, tootle around, low and slow, kind of plane, but it was a pleasure to fly.

It's a simple plane but I'm quite proud of the way I built and detailed it.  Particularly the scale motor detail that I built from scrap using balsa, spruce, springs from ball point pens, wires and nuts and bolts to represent the spark plugs and wiring.

I just thought I'd share to finish off this thread.  Photo credit to resident photographer, Mr. Andy Hoffer.

Thanks for listening  ;D
