Hey guys, in case anyone from stouffville area needs a good deal on tires.  The Tire Store on Main and 10th line is great!  They were $100 cheaper than Walmart and C-Tire.  The owners name is Paul and he is great.   He could even find tires for my old VW van!  My alloy rims were all perfect with no damage and they used stick on weights.   The guys installing the wheels look to be very proffessional and don't have kids installing them.  Anyways, just passing my good experience to you guys.

This isn't off topic!  You need good tires to get into the field in the Spring... or rather OUT of the field  ;D

Thanks for the tip.

I'm very interested to see the progress on the plane hauler.  Looks like quite a project.  Do you think you'll have it fixed up for next summer?  Is your garage heated?

No heated garage.... plus I have two more buses packed in there...  :P

I got all the metal from a site called CIP1, it's all cheap and parts are even cheaper.   I went to metal supermarket and got the 11 guage metal for the frame repairs.   All the out riggers and the rockers eneded up about $250 ish.   My plans are to have the welding done in a few weeks and I will start to fix the body work.  It runs OK now, just need to get a new ign switch as it is acting up.  It has so much room inside.  We plan on making racks for the inside to hold planes.  A charging staton and slide out table for the back.   I was thinking of putting a TEMAC decal on the back.    ;D

Even more a little off topic....

LOVE THE VAN!  True classic. If I bring the RV I think there should be a minimum of two "normal" cars between us. Don't want anyone having flashbacks from some greatfull dead concert.

If you have any automotive electronics problems be they stock or crazed inverter/generator setups let me know. (not trying to insult or anything just throwing it out there. Used to build fire, police and ambulance vehicles)
Yea 400W/lb should about do it.. But wouldn't a nice round 500 be better?

Way cool Gregor!I was looking at a Westphalia for camping as well as carrying flying gear but not too serious as I still have to drive it every day, feed gas, etc. I settled on a tent trailer. Still looking at them.

At the end of our road is a guy who gets old school busses and postal vans. They go pretty cheap (under $4K) and I guy I knew a guy whose wife drove for the company who used them so could hook me up with their maintenance guys to advise me. Then I found out all these are 1t rated so, just like old ambulances, etc., they are classed as commercial and have to have yearly safties/inspections costing big bucks.

So Gregor what about colour scheme? Fokker streaking, red barron red, or lozenge?

I was very busy on Sat afternoon.  Attempted to beat the damage to the rear of the van.  I just need to find a way of bending the creased metal in the middle.  It's getting there.   I found the rear bumper and started to sand it to paint grey.   The ing switch is coming and I have to drain the tank.  Once that is done new fuel lines and it should run and I can drive it up and down the drive way.   Then fix brakes and weld up frame.   So spring it should be good.   Then we can talk about doing something with the interior.  For now empty.
