Hi Everyone,

I was in touch with the guy on RC Groups who does the plans and kits for the WWII profile combat planes, to see if he could get a group discount for shipping.

The foam kits, pre-cut, are $11 each, and the firewall/accessory kit is another $4.  So $15 for a complete airplane kit.

The shipping was what was expensive when I got mine.  If we get 7 kits shipped, it would be $30 shipping ($4.29 each.)  15 kits would be $40 ($2.67 each.)

So, if we have 7 people interested, we could get kits with accessories, shipped to Canada for about $20 a plane.  If we have 15 people (or 15 models) it would be just under $18 a plane.

Is anyone interested?

**SEMFF WWII combat planes 28 designs with plans and video**

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These models are the result of the desire to produce low cost, great looking models suitable for combat.

The following list are the design paremeters;
Profile WWII 3 channel RET or AET design from PBIII or Owens Corning Foamular material.
Wing area limited to 150 sq. in. with a KFm2 airfoil.
Blue Wonder 1700Kv outrunner motor. http://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDH...trunner_1700kv or Turnigy equivalent http://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDH...s_Motor_1700kv
Some optional motors to consider are the Towerpro 2408-21 1750Kv http://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDH...idProduct=4321, and the RCtimer 2208-12 1800Kv motors http://www.rctimer.com/index.php?gOo...productname=as elegible.
Either of these motors are better suited to the short nosed long tail moment models like the BF-109 or the Spitfire where attaining the correct CoG is only possible with additional ballast.
2 - 9g servos. http://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDH...ec_Micro_Servo
10-12A ESC http://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDH...eed_Controller or http://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDH...eed_Controller or this has a 2A BEC http://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDH...2A_BEC)___BESC
2s 900Mah Mystery Battery http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.34319
Recommended prop for this set up is either a GWS 7x6 http://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDH...2mm)_(6pcs/set) or an APC 7x6E http://www.apcprop.com/ProductDetail...tCode=LP07060E. The main idea here is to stay within a factor rule of 42 or less (that is the diameter x pitch in inches).
Total cost would be under $30 excluding esc rx.
Besides free plans, all of these planes are made available in kit form from myself. The basic foam kit is CNC cut Dow Protection Board III or Owens Corning Foamular (FFF), and are $11 each plus shipping. The Corsair kit is an exception due to having to bake the wings and cost on it is $16 each for foam only. The TBM Avenger and Yak 3U are also exceptions at $16 due to the larger quantity of foam required (multiple sheets).

Also I have Firewall/Control Horn accessory kits that are made for these models available for $4 each. These are quality CNC cut components. See attached image in the gallery.

Shipping is $7 each, or I can send 7 kits for $16. That is the lowest cost to quantity ratio that I can get at this time. PM me with your request. Cost varies a bit with the change in fuel prices.

Link to SketchUp template file that I use to create these designs. Maybe you can also http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...postcount=1658

These can easily be designed in Sketchup and scaled to get the wing area within spec. With the many 3 view images and color schemes available should be pretty easy to produce nice looking low cost models for this kind of activity.

This may have already been done, but thought I would pitch it to my buds here.

Edit 30-MAR-2010: All up weight came our just under 7 oz at 197g. That is right close to 150 watts per lb. as the BW motor with a 7x6 SF prop puts out 65 watts. We could call it the 150 cubed rule.

Edit 01-JAN-2011: Added a pictorial build guide for the VLF style builds here http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...postcount=1874

So far I've got people interested accounting for 10 planes........

Any others?

I'll bring mine to the field on Sunday for people to see.  It's not ready to fly because I'm waiting for a small, 10A esc.

2S 1000mAh battery, 2408 motor (to get the balance I had to swap out the planned 2217) 2 x 9g servos and a park receiver.  Using Hobby King parts, the whole plane came out to about $60.

I recently asked to be put down for one, but after some consideration, I can see carnage abounding and foam raining from the sky. Fun!

With that in mind, change my order from one kit to two kits. Thanks!!

Did everyone have a chance to see Simons Huricane on Sunday?

There were some comments on power source, battery etc.   I am just going with what's in the parts bin.  Just remember to keep it light.

So far we've got 8 people interested and 19 planes listed, ready to order!!!!

I can feel a combat league coming on for 2012! ;D
