The spectators were sitting comfortably less than 5 feet off the flight line, they probably wouldn't have time to get out harms way if the plane lost control and hit their direction.

That plane is really big.. It looks deceiving? All the images slowed show it is about 10-15 feet away from the flight stations. I agree that as a spectator I would WAY back! Maybe even hiding behind a car...
