Apparently the source on the website for purchasing the motor mounts is no longer available.  I have lent the last set I have to Rob to make himself templates for making his own.  I can lend the set to you when I get it back from Rob.  The type shown on the plans can be easily made just from looking at them in the pictures.  I wouldn't worry about lightening them up.  Solid sides would be totally ok.  In other words, 'any type of motor mount would dooooooo'.   :o

this is the other combat plane i fly.... it is made of epp foam and really can take licken! the prop being in the center is key. I modified the tails to protect the servo arms as well...
we find with foam board airplanes, one good hit and they are destroyed.

I 3D printed my current motor mount but a simple piece of plywood reinforced by a couple of wooden dowels would do just as good.

I guess almost any plane can be use for combat missions but in terms of follow up repair/replace after a hit, nothing beats the simplicity of insulation form delta wing. With Jim's hit record, I bet he can put one together in less than an hour and that includes glue drying time.  ;D

Here is some entertaining combat from the lakeland fliers.  ;D

;D A few slides from my presentation.  I hope some members find them helpful.

Michael

Excellent!

I start construction this weekend!

Question: Do you think the structure would hold an E-Flite 160 motor and a 10S 5000 mah battery pack?

;D

"Do you think the structure would hold an E-Flite 160 motor and a 10S 5000 mah battery pack?" ???

Micheal, I am sure it would if you beefed up the structure with more than my recommended orange crate reinforcing plywood as suggested.  I would also replace the 1/2 inch blue foam board with 1/2 inch plywood throughout.

I would declare you the winner by default too!

Helmets will also be mandatory.  ;D

  Hey Bruce,
Can you please put me down for an airframe?
Thanks
Glenn

Yep, you are down for one Glen.  Please refer to the post for the Build night project at http://temac.ca/smf/index.php/topic,6103.msg39771.html#msg39771 .  It contains details relating to material requirements for finishing the kit.

Thanks Bruce

How is the build class combat planes coming along?

I had a couple of people today at the Good Friday fly asking about the plans for the Warwing.  You can download the plans from the following web site.  The site also includes instructions.

You will also find some helpful information in this post from our recent Warwing kit build activity.

I had a great time today flying as the TARGET.  I hope everyone had fun.  I did.  (Rob, get your warwing back together.)

All of you are going to have to work harder if you want a chance to get me.  Michael was the closest today having chased the ribbon across his warbird.  Had he had some popsicle sticks or something glued to the end of the wings he surely would have had a kill.

Michael, your bravery in combat today shone through.  You can proudly pass along the chicken award to some other deserving sole (at your leisure).  Select the individual carefully.
