do I need a fly control? I have seen some members fly their member with fpv system and I don't know if they have any fly control on there. If you do not need a fly control, how do you power the cam unit?

You can have both options.

If you do not want to a have a FC (Flight controller), a decent (VTX) video transmitter (powered by the main battery) could provide the regulated power to the camera. Existing cameras usually provide a minimum OSD capabilities that includes battery voltage level sensor.

If you choose to have a FC, then you may want to make sure it has OSD and a voltage sensor capability. You need to configure the FC (for OSD). The signal from the camera goes to the FC (OSD processing) and from there to the VTX. Here you need to power the FC. New FCs usually come with an internal BEC sufficient to power itself. You always want to guarantee there is enough juice from the ESC to power servos, FC, radio receiver plus a safety margin of 25-50%.
