Flying this Sunday June 7- 10am-1pm

Need to get a routine going again.
Am aiming to be at the field this Sunday 10 am to about 1 pm.
If anyone needs some help maidening some planes I would be happy to help.

Well, I went to the field on Saturday, and nobody was there. :-(
I Maiden my Warwing.
Here are a few observations:
1- It really is stable laterally with the float which acts like a pendulum.
2- It hovers nicely at full power with a 40KPH headwind.
3- The speed performance is amazing with this tailwind.
4- The climb is sluggish.
5- The throws are adequate, a bit more may be acceptable.
6- The lateral area of the float renders the rudder useless.  I am considering removing the rudder as a control surface and just gluing it permanently to the fin.
7- The extra weight is not worth the trouble and the float will be removed.

On a side note, I did not try the bomb release at this time; a calmer day will be selected for that test.

Thank you Bruce for a great model, I am now happy with the results, but no combat just yet...

Some technical stuff for those interested:
- Radio Spektrum
- Motor EMAX BL2810/12 11.1 volts
- Battery 2,600 mah 7.4 volts
- ESC 30amp
- prop 10 X 7

That's why nobody was there.

Anyway, it shows just how well the warwings fly.

Thanks for your comments @GuyOReilly pertaining to the warwing.

I would like everyone to note that the Warwing was introduced to the Morning Crew by our recently departed friend, Craig Campbell.  Craig brought the Warwing design home from Florida and encouraged us to build and fly them in combat.

Re: 6- The lateral area of the float renders the rudder useless.  I am considering removing the rudder as a control surface and just gluing it permanently to the fin.

When asked about the value of a rudder on a Warwing, I have suggested many times in the past that in my experience the best way to do it is by using the tool in the photograph below to draw one on your Warwing.

(For the record, I have put a functional rudder on my float equipped warwing (equipped with two floats) to improve its handling on the hard and soft water.    In the air I turn the rudder off.) The two floats don't impair it's flight performance.

Guy: Your Warwing will also fly better with a steamer tailing proudly behind it and in the company of other Warwings.

Recently I was informed that some people believe that when flying combat, I aim for the competitors plane and not the streamer.   YOU GIVE ME WAY TOO MUCH CREDIT IF YOU THINK I CAN FLY THAT WELL!

Thank you for the clarification about who introduced the Warwing to TEMAC.  Rest in peace Craig.  :'(

Yep, you had mentioned that rudder was not required...  :-X I was thinking flying off of water, but it is made of foam, so it will float.  ;D

A streamer will be attached to it, eventually.....

Still, thank you for putting these kits together and put me down for one more when you decide to do another batch.  ;)

7.4 volts!!!!!  I have rubber powered airplanes that produce more power than that. ;D ;D   11.1 volts is the standard, unless your name is Simon H..  His life starts at 4S. 8)

Now back to the matter of flying Sunday morning... 

While it might be  a bit breezy tomorrow morning, according to the forecast the sun is supposed to be shining and the winds are forecast to be straight down the runway. Now for some advice.  For those who may come out to fly and are not be used to flying in the morning, bring your sunglasses and consider that before taking off, check out the sun's location.  In my experience the sun will remain relatively in the same place throughout the entire flight, so you can avoid flying your model directly in front of it.  It can be done.  Trust me, lot's of old men can do it.

Now back to Warwings...  @Frank v B are you bringing a Warwing?

The wind is starting to pick up a bit here in Stouffville.   It seems a fair bit cooler than yesterday!  I am hoping to get out there around the same time as Frank.

When Frank and I met at the field this morning, it became 'pick on Andy day'. 

First thing I did Andy at 10:11 upon my arrival, I took out my camera.

Photo 4: Andy, when viewing this photo, orient yourself by laying on the grass (which you do all the time anyway) below and behind the fence post looking skyward in a slight southeasterly direction.  That bright thing in the photo directly above the post is that morning light you were referring to.  The photo was taken at 10:11 a.m.

Some nice planes in the air today, we drove by (very slowly).  Saw Peters wildcat? in the air.

It was a great day at the field.

The wind was strong, but it did taper later in the day.

I had 8 good flights, and zero damage!

Then there is Andy.  When he comes home and Mita asks "how was your day" his answer would be  "Great.  I had 8 good fights" ;D ;D
