Arrows Hawk

At least 5 TEMAC pilots have purchased (and most) flown the small Arrows Bae Hawk 50mm EDF jet. This is a 3-channel (ailerons, elevator and throttle) hand-launch model that flies on a 3-cell 1300mah lipo battery pack. A 4th channel set to a 3-position switch is required for 'safe-stabilized and neutral' flight modes. We generally launch on safe model and fly on stabilized mode. 3 minute flites or typical. We also tend to fly in simultaneously in groups of 2, 3 and 4 pilots. It's a lot of fun!

Due to (stupid) pilot error, I recently crashed my model, crunching the entire nose section. The repair was easy, using epoxy, and some wood and fiberglass for structural reinforcement. However, once I started working on the model, I decided to add a rudder function. This was simple (see the photos); if anyone wants details, please ask me.

I also painted over the repairs and touched up a few worn areas on the model. I bought the small plastic jar of paint at Home Depot, and it is a near perfect colour match. See the photo for the code numbers. If you need some of this paint (I don't have much left), print out the photo and bring it to Home Depot, and they should be able to accurately duplicate it for you.

How effective is the rudder addition? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Did you use CA hinges, nylon hinges, or tape?
