The Skills Challenge day, held Sunday, Sept. 25, has been described by many club members as one of the
most ‘fun days ever’ at TEMAC. There were no prizes nor awards, as the intention was simply to
have as many people, of all skill levels, participate in events geared towards having fun. Challenges
included spot landings, touch-n-go’s, follow the leader, and the such. Response and feedback
were almost universally positive, and members insist on another such event next year. 

TEMAC members had a ‘blast’ at their first electric ducted fan jet model event on Sunday,
September 4, mirroring the warbirds event but exclusively for jets. The weather was cooler and
slightly windy, but perfectly suitable for the faster flying models. A few non-member visitors participated
in the fun as well. More than 25 models were flown, covering a range of sport and scale aircraft,
some hand-launched, some bungee-cord launched and some taking off with retractable landing gear.
One of the slowest models flown was a huge FlyFly F-86 Sabre, and the fastest was the
Habu 32 by E-Flite. No prizes or awards were given out; this was simply an excerise in fun.

Nearly 50 registered electric RC pilots gathered at the TEMAC field in Stouffville
(just north of Toronto) for their 8th annual electric funfly, a 2-day event with lots of casual flying and
competition. TEMAC was the birth-place of the popular Formosa racing events, and it goes without saying that
several races were held. Casual fun-flying saw everything from ultra micro models to big 1/4 scale
models, ducted fan jets and helicopters. There were several prizes, courtesy of AJ Hobbies and Pinnacle Hobby,
awards for models in several categories, as well as a live auction to raise funds to support the club.

A last minute plan for a 3-hour indoor funfly turned into one of the most successful such events
held in recent memory in the GTA. After last years ‘tween X-mas and New Year’s TEMAC indoor funfly
at the Metro Golf Dome, another such event was announced just a few days prior to Dec. 27.
Well, we had 46 registered pilots, more than 100 models, and sometimes as many as 20 models
flying in the air at a time. Models ranged from micro scale to jumbo scale, docile to extreme 3D,
ARF’s to scratch-built gems, helis and experimental models. Thanks to Flying Stuff Hobbies from
Ajax for donating a model helicopter for a raffle, which was won by Paul Penna from Ottawa.
